Transformation of a beautiful farmhouse family home

This seventeenth century farmhouse has been in the family for a few decades and is now being brought to life by a busy and active young family. They approached us to help achieve their vision to create a warm and cosy snug-television room and softening the pallet of other rooms. Unfortunately the walls needed a lot of preparation as gypsum plaster came away from the underlying substrate. After sensitive repairs we could finally start adding some colour!

The family use the snug as their television room where the family gathers on large comfy sofas in front of the log burner to watch films together. They wanted to create a warm, cosy, cinema feel room. We found Beyond Blue, a colour by Little Greene to give the walls a deep, rich and dark tone. Throughout all of the rooms there is a “red thread” of Little Greene’s Raw Chalk which adds a consistent accent to the ceilings and woodwork.

The main lounge is styled as a relaxing place to sit and read or listen to or make music. The family wanted a softer tone from pale yellow walls and they chose Little Greene’s Portland Stone Pale and Raw Chalk for the ceilings.

The house is blessed with a superb pivotal space in the hall, stairs and landing encapsulating this gorgeous open staircase. This space has a grand visitor entrance through the original heavy front door and a practical lobby to the rear for the busy family to dash in and out with all of the stuff required for their busy lives. For this space, they chose Little Greene’s First Light to give a calming, clean space.
